Posted on by ParsCo Construction

A new scholarship has been announced Tuesday by a local builder for Pensacola State College Students.

Pensacola builder Amir Fooladi established the the PSC Student Constructors Endowed Scholarship for students hoping to enter the construction field.

Fooladi, PSC President Ed Meadows and the PSC Alumni Association announced the PSC Student Constructors Endowed Scholarship during a afternoon press conference Tuesday at the Pensacola campus.

The scholarship is open to students enrolled in the College’s carpentry, electrical, mechanical, plumbing and drafting design programs.

The scholarship also will help supply Northwest Florida with more construction trade employees.

“One of the biggest hurdles in our industry right now is finding good people and having a skilled labor force,’’ Fooladi said. “A lot of times we don’t have the skilled labor we need. Some of the biggest hurdles we face in our industry right now are finding good people and having a skilled labor force. We want to help our community by creating high-paying jobs for an industry that’s really in need of people.”

“Mr. Fooladi’s generosity is greatly appreciated and comes at a critical time to help meet the major shortage of skilled workers in the construction field,” PSC President Meadows said.

According to the U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics, construction sector jobs are projected to grow about 4 percent each year through 2029 and gain about 296,300 new jobs. Overall growth in the economy and population will increase demand for new buildings, roads, and other structures, which will create new jobs in construction and extraction occupation, the BLS reported.

The median annual wage for all construction and extraction occupations was $48,610 in May 2020, which was higher than the median annual wage for all occupations of $41,950.

Fooladi earned a bachelor’s degree in construction engineering from the University of Southern Mississippi and is an adjunct instructor at the University of West Florida where he teaches construction administration and contract law.
