SBA 8(a) Sole Source Benefits To Our Clients
The Small Business Administration (SBA) 8(a) Sole Source vehicle enables government agencies to engage in direct buy contracts with 8(a) certified contractors.
Parsco’s 8(a)Â and SBA business development certification is active and valid through 2026.
Section 8(a) of the Small Business Act as amended by Congress, created the 8(a) business development program. This program enables SBA to assist small disadvantaged firms to develop their businesses. In applying to the program, a firm is rigorously evaluated on its ownership, operations, financial health, and past performance. Once accepted, the firm is required to provide SBA a detailed business plan and annually show continued success as a viable, strong business entity. Firms that are approved are certified by the SBA for a period of nine years. The SBA has signed Memorandums of Understanding (MOUs) with Federal Agencies allowing them to contract directly with certified 8(a) firms. Participants can receive sole source contracts, up to a ceiling of $4.0 million for goods and services, and $6.5M for manufacturing.

The Government program manager or interested party develops a statement of work, prepares a government estimate, and obtains the necessary funding.
The Government program manager or interested party chooses ParsCo to perform the work and submits a procurement request to your contracting officer.

Heat Stress Prevention

There are a variety of steps crews can take before heat-related illness strikes on a job site, including:
1. Acclimate slowly: It generally takes five days of working at least 1½ hours per day for the body to become acclimated. Check weather forecasts for heat wave information.
2. Dress for summer. Lightweight, light-colored clothing reflects heat and sunlight and helps your body maintain normal temperatures. Long sleeves and pants are still necessary to protect your body from flying debris and other safety hazards.
3. Wear a hat or sun visor.
4. Eat small meals and salty snacks throughout the day.
5. Drink plenty of water or other non-alcoholic, non-caffeinated fluids. Your body needs fluids to keep cool, and you should drink them even if you don’t feel thirsty. Drink one pint of water every 15 to 20 minutes in extreme heat. Urine should be clear. If it’s dark, you are probably dehydrated.
6. Do not take salt tablets unless specified by a physician.
7. Take frequent breaks in shaded or air-conditioned areas.
8. Use the buddy system to keep an eye on your co-workers.
9. Some medications can make you more susceptible to heat illnesses. Check with your doctor or pharmacist to find out if any medicine you are taking could affect you while working in the heat.
10. Do the heaviest work during the coolest part of the day. This is usually between 6 a.m. and 10 a.m.

Recently discovered artifacts in Pensacola, Florida, have unearthed the first Spanish colony, founded by Don Tristan de Luna in 1559. The Home Builders Association of West Florida hosted a meeting yesterday afternoon with representatives from Emerald Coast Utilities Authority (ECUA) and the City of Pensacola to gain a better understanding of the water/sewer connections and roadway cuts.
After discussing the issue, City Engineer Derrik Owens will evaluate best practices to restore a roadway to see if there is an inexpensive way make repairs that will not compromise the integrity of the road. ECUA, who on April 19 said it would not cut or restore a roadway in order to make a water or sewer connection, will continue provide the cuts, hookups and restoration of a roadway with a temporary patch (This change was made on 4/23).
The permit holder is responsible for following the City’s procedures to restore the roadway to the City’s specifications. The main issue had to do with the milling of the road, where ECUA estimates ranged from $8,000 to $10,000 per patch because of the large milling equipment needed. After evaluating the costs of this, it was never the City’s intention for a homeowner/builder/developer to absorb the estimated expense. The milling can be done with a hand held milling machine or a skid steer with a milling attachment at a much cheaper cost.
The City will look into providing this service for a fee. The HBA appreciates the leadership of ECUA and the City of Pensacola who agreed to meet on very short notice. Also, thank you to ECUA Board Member Vicki Campbell for helping with this issue.

“My first love ever was basketball, and I had major plans to play for LSU and go from there. Well, I up’ed and moved to MS, and my first year of college, I was VERY out of shape and started to go to a boxing gym to help lose some weight. The weight started shredding off and I started falling in love with the art of striking.
One day, I left my boxing class early and went to do a Kickboxing class at Alan Belcher MMA Club, and I never went back to the boxing gym. ABMMA welcomed me with open arms and is now my family!
I’m striving to be a better person and a person that young girls and women can look up to, and can say “If Bailey can follow and pursue her dreams, then I can.”
I also want people to know that, not knowing your next move, and putting it into God’s hands, was the BEST decision I have ever made.
